Welcome to the HulkyPrints 3D Printing FAQ
Shop With Confidence
At HulkyPrints, we’ve put together a quick, plain-English 3D printing guide to help you shop with confidence.
It explains how we make your pieces on our Creality K2 Pro (with the 4 colour CFS engine)
and the Anycubic Kobra S1 with 4 colour ACE Pro colour engine.
You’ll learn what PLA is, why layer lines appear, and how to care for
articulated fidget toys as well as display collectibles.
We also answer common questions about colour options, sizing,
custom STL prints, toy suitability & safety, processing times,
and UK delivery via Royal Mail Tracked 48 (or Tracked 24 if you upgrade).
Plus, we cover quality checks, returns, and how our fan-inspired designs
fit within the shop.
Still can’t find what you need? Send us a message — we aim to reply within 48 hours.
What 3D printers do you use at HulkyPrints?
We currently run an Anycubic Kobra S1 with the 4-colour ACE engine (for vibrant, multi-colour prints) and a Creality K2 Pro with 4 colour CFS engine (for fast, high-quality single-colour printing). Both machines give us the flexibility to print everything from playful fidget toys to detailed collectibles.
What is PLA?
PLA (Polylactic Acid) is a biodegradable, plant-based plastic made from renewable sources like cornstarch and sugarcane. It’s the go-to material for most of our prints because it’s strong, safe, and eco-friendlier than traditional plastics.
Are your prints food safe?
No ❌. While PLA is non-toxic, 3D prints have tiny layer lines where bacteria can hide, making them unsafe for direct food or drink contact. They’re perfect for display, play, and decoration. However you can use PLA for things that measure dry foods like spaghetti and pasta.
What are articulated toys?
Articulated toys are 3D-printed in one piece with moving joints—like dragons, fidget lizards, or pandas. They’re fun to pose and fidget with, and each one comes straight off the printer already moveable.
Are articulated toys suitable for children?
Our articulated toys are designed mainly for collectors and older children. They’re great fidgets but can have small parts and aren’t suitable for toddlers or very young kids. Always check product listings for age recommendations.
Why do 3D prints sometimes have visible lines?
Those lines are called layer lines. 3D printing builds models layer by layer, so tiny ridges can appear. We see them as part of the charm of 3D-printed art—each one is unique!
Do you paint or finish your prints?
Most of our products are sold as raw PLA prints straight from the machine. Some special editions may include hand-painted or finished details, but we’ll always note that in the product description.
Can I request a custom colour?
Yes! Thanks to our 4-colour ACE engine and 4-colour CFS engine, we can often create prints in different colour combos. Just drop us a message and we’ll let you know if it’s possible.
How strong is PLA?
PLA is durable for display pieces, fidget toys, and everyday decorative items. However, it’s not as impact-resistant as industrial plastics, so it’s best to avoid heavy stress or extreme heat.
Will PLA melt in the sun?
PLA can soften if exposed to high heat (around 60°C+), so it’s not ideal for cars in summer or outdoor use in direct sunlight. Indoors, it will last for years without issue.
Can I wash 3D-printed items?
Yes, but gently. Wipe with a damp cloth or rinse in cold water. Avoid hot water, dishwashers, or harsh scrubbing, as heat and friction can damage the plastic.
Do you design all your models?
Some of our prints are original designs, while others are fan-inspired creations made from licensed files by talented 3D model designers (credited where possible). Custom requests are welcome too!
What makes your prints unique?
Every print has its own layer pattern, finish, and personality. No two items are 100% identical, making each HulkyPrints piece one-of-a-kind.
How long does a print take?
Depending on size and detail, a print can take anywhere from 1 hour to over 24 hours. Our printers work hard, layer by layer, to bring designs to life.
Do you use eco-friendly materials?
Yes! PLA is biodegradable under industrial conditions, and we aim to recycle misprints, re-use spools, and keep packaging eco-conscious whenever possible.
What’s the biggest item you can print?
Our printers can handle fairly large builds. Our Anycubic Kobra S1 can print 25x25x25cm and our Creality K2 Pro can print 30x30x30cm. For custom large-scale projects, send us a message to discuss.
Can you print in flexible or different materials?
At the moment, we mainly use PLA. However, we sometimes experiment with speciality filaments (like silk PLA for a shiny finish or glow-in-the-dark PLA).
Are your items toys or collectibles?
Most items are collectibles first, designed for display, fidgeting, or light play. Unless stated otherwise, they’re not certified as children’s toys under UK toy safety regulations.
Can I order a custom design or print my own file?
Absolutely ✅. If you have an STL file or want something unique, we offer custom 3D printing services. Pricing depends on size, complexity, and material.
How do you quality check your prints?
Every item is inspected after printing to make sure it’s sturdy, clean, and looks the way it should. If it doesn’t meet our standards, it doesn’t get shipped—simple as that. We do sell our seconds when we have them, meaning they might have slight imperfections that we know are there however you might not see. You will find them on the Sale category.
